About Japanese Association of Healthcare Communication

The Society for Communication Research in Healthcare was established in December 2001 by a group of social science and medical researchers, who were conducting empirical research into interpersonal communication between patients and health-care providers. In December 2009, the society published a book on the theories and methods necessary for empirical research in this area. That overview primer, Iryou Komyunikeishon: Jisshoukenkyu eno Tamenteki Aprouchi (Healthcare Communication: A Multifaceted Approach to Empirical Research), was published by Shinohara Shuppan Shinsha. Since its inception, the society has held two research meetings a year: over the past 20 years, there have been 40 such meetings.

To expand the scope of its research to young individuals and researchers in multiple fields, the society was restructured as the Japanese Association of Healthcare Communication in April 2022 as a subsidiary of Health Communication Week Organization (HCWO). The society is pleased to announce that it has made a fresh start.
